| I
was conceived while both my parents, Ute and Walter
Bachinski, were attending the Ontario College of Art
in the early 60’s. My earliest environment was
filled with art: on the walls, in books, playing on
our stereo, in the company who frequented our home.
My parents have been supportive of my path as an artist,
from my earliest childhood memories to this day. |

While
attending Simon Fraser University, one of my theatre
instructors, Mark Diamond, asked if I had ever considered
becoming a painter. Three years after my graduation,
and working as a set designer for theatre and opera
productions, I finally took Mark’s suggestion,
and my parents’ encouragement, to heart. |

I began with drawing, creating large-scale figurative works using dry and oil pastels on paper. Gradually painting emerged in my art practice and in 2002 I moved to Montréal where a whole new level of layering and creating texture surfaced in my work. |
| |
| I returned to the West Coast of British Columbia in 2004 where I set up my studio that I share with my partner ZoD, a talented composer and musician. We are grateful to be one another’s muse and to live in this corner of paradise. |
